Coping with Emotional Concerns
There are many things you can do to help cope with the emotional ups and downs related to your diagnosis. To help manage these feelings, you can try:
Staying in touch with your support system. Speaking to friends and family can be beneficial for dealing with the stress you may experience.
Adhering to relaxation techniques. Deep breathing and muscle relaxation exercises can help lessen stress and reduce the risk of symptom flare-ups.
Engaging in hobbies and activities. Pursuing interests and activities that bring you joy and relaxation may help you alleviate stressors and refocus your outlook.
Being patient. Improvements in mood occur gradually. Immediate changes should not be expected.
Setting realistic goals for yourself. Small goals add up to big changes. Work on them a little at a time.
Being active. Exercise, physical activity, or participation in activities that you've enjoyed may help boost your mood.
Reflecting on past challenges you've experienced may help you navigate where you're going.
Use this guided reflection to check in with yourself and make a plan for moving forward.

NUTRITION
Discover how smart food choices can support your health and treatment goals.
The role of nutrition in managing PLAQUE PSORIASIS (PSO)
Although there is little evidence that diet has a direct impact on PSO, eating a healthy diet and dropping excess weight can help in other ways. Being your healthiest self can feel empowering, and a healthy diet can lower the risk of diabetes and heart disease and decrease pressure on joints.
Diet/nutrition Facts
- PSO is an inflammatory disease. Eating foods with anti-inflammatory properties may help reduce your symptoms
- Foods with anti-inflammatory properties include cold-water fish, flaxseed, olive oil, pumpkin seeds, walnuts, and colorful fruits and vegetables, such as carrots, squash, spinach, broccoli, blueberries, and mangoes

Getting active
Physical activity not only helps you control weight, it can reduce feelings of stress, which can trigger psoriasis flare-ups.

Physical activity facts
- Research shows it’s important to get all four types of exercise: endurance, strength, balance, and flexibility
- According to the US Department of Health and Human Services’ Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, you should do muscle-strengthening activities at least two days a week and moderate-intensity aerobic exercises for at least two and a half hours a week
- While these guidelines can be helpful, you should tailor your physical activity to your life and your own personal abilities and bandwidth
